So, I was thinking that I would like to have a fun thrash car - take to the mountains, take the track, and just have fun with. But I want something different. Sure the answer is always Miata, but, dammit, I don't want to be one of thousands. I want something different.

I thought about a Pontiac Solstice, but they aren't cheap enough.

I thought about Saturn Sky, but they aren't cheap enough and I HAAAAAATE Saturns (had 2, both sucked, 'nuff said).

So, I said to myself, "Self, what would be kind of crazy fun", and I answered:

"Why not a Porsche 914 and then do an engine swap to get more power?"

Hmm, I think I might be onto a great idea? They aren't that expensive. They are low-slung. And, best of all, trashed out ones are cheap.

Subaru Impreza/Outback Sport. Cheap, readily available with a manual gearbox and AWD, and readily accepts WRX parts.

914 swaps are rather common and usually turn out fairly well. I think I saw a 914 with an ls1 on here yesterday and if you could pull off something like that it'd be a hell of a thrash car.

1965-69 Chevy Corvair. Classic car but rear engine air cooled. Non turbo cars are cheap.

I found that. Don't know if I would do an LS swap, or just see about a better Porsche engine. But, still, you have the right idea. A great, uncommon, thrash car.

Alfa Milano (if you can find one, they're cheap)

BMW E36 3 series, depending on your budget you might be able to swing an M3, they're not that expensive
